A HubSpot to Attio migration moves Contacts, Companies, Deals, Notes, Activities, and custom properties into Attio over 1-3 weeks. The real work is restructuring during the move, not lift-and-shift. Migration is included in the 7-day Sprint ($2,500).
Why teams leave HubSpot
HubSpot is powerful, but many teams end up paying for a marketing platform when all they need is a CRM. The costs grow, the interface gets heavier, and the team uses maybe 20% of what they're paying for.
Common reasons for switching:
- Per-seat pricing makes adding team members expensive
- The CRM is buried under marketing features you don't use
- Custom objects and reports require expensive tiers
- The interface feels slow and cluttered
- You want something simpler that your team will actually adopt
Attio gives you a fast, flexible CRM without the marketing bloat. Free for up to 3 users, with pricing that doesn't punish growth.
What we help with
Migration planning
Review your HubSpot setup and decide what moves to Attio, what gets restructured, and what stays behind.
Data cleanup
Clean up messy properties, duplicate records, and outdated fields before they pollute your new CRM.
Property mapping
Map HubSpot contacts, companies, deals, and custom properties into Attio's data model. Not a blind copy, a thoughtful restructure.
Import and validation
Run the migration and verify that records, relationships, and history land correctly.
Workspace setup
Configure Attio with views, pipelines, automations, and reports so your team can work from day one.
Fixing failed migrations
Already tried to move and it didn't go well? We can audit the result and clean it up.
The process
1. Audit
We review your HubSpot account: what you use, what's dead weight, and what matters most.
2. Plan
We define the target structure in Attio and agree on what moves and how.
3. Clean
We clean up the data before export. Duplicates, empty fields, broken values.
4. Migrate
We run the import, map everything correctly, and verify the result.
5. Launch
We set up views, automations, and reports. Your team gets a walkthrough and documentation.
The HubSpot to Attio migration, step by step
If you would rather run the move yourself, this is the same sequence we follow on a paid migration. The CSV move takes hours; the data-model rebuild is what takes one to two weeks.
Rebuild the data model before you export
A HubSpot account used for two or three years collects properties, lifecycle stages, pipelines and workflows that made sense once and no longer do. Move all of it into Attio and the new tool looks like the old one in a different colour.
Run this on a whiteboard with the team before touching HubSpot. The result almost always cuts the property count by 40 to 60 percent.
- Which objects do you actually need? Contacts, Companies and Deals certainly. Then: which custom objects carry real business logic, and which are leftover experiments?
- Which properties matter? For each object, which ones feed an active view, report or automation? Everything else is a deletion candidate.
- Which relationships matter? Company hierarchies, deal associations, contact roles — which connections have to cross over?
What does not migrate
Set expectations early. Core CRM data moves cleanly: contacts, companies, deals, custom properties, notes, tasks, activities and custom objects all have a home in Attio. The marketing half of HubSpot does not.
- Marketing emails, templates and sequences.
- Landing pages, forms and CTAs.
- Lead scoring models.
- Ad accounts and attribution reports.
- Chatbots and live chat routing.
Two routes: Import2 or manual CSV
Import2 is Attio's partner for one-click migrations, and it is free when you start it from the Migrate button inside Attio. It moves Companies (deduped by domain), Contacts (deduped by email), Deals, Notes, Tasks, Calls (as Notes) and Leads (as Contacts). It does not move emails, meetings or file attachments.
Manual CSV is more work, and worth it when the data model changes significantly during the move, when you need full control over field mapping, or when you have custom objects with complex relationships. Most migrations land in a hybrid: Import2 for the core objects, CSV or API for the rest.
Three HubSpot settings to disable before you start, per Import2's own guidance: "assign company owner to contact by default", which overwrites the owner Import2 just imported; "create and associate companies with contacts", which builds a company from the email domain and duplicates what Import2 already moved; and HubSpot Insights, which auto-fills fields from HubSpot's own database and cannot be switched off — freeze changes during the window if accuracy matters.
Export with all properties, and keep the record IDs
Use CSV rather than XLSX: no column limits and cleaner to diff. Export each object separately from its list view.
- Choose "All properties on records", not "Properties on view". The view option only exports the visible columns, and partial exports make partial records.
- Set associations to "All associated records" rather than the default 1,000 cap. This matters for deals tied to many contacts.
- Keep the HubSpot record ID column in every export. It is the only reliable way to reconnect relationships after import.
- For large accounts use the API export endpoint, POST /crm/v3/exports/export/async, which handles bigger datasets than the UI exporter and can be scripted for repeat passes.
Map the objects, clean, then import in order
HubSpot Contacts become Attio People, Companies become Companies, Deals become Deals, and custom objects become custom objects. Tickets have no direct equivalent — most teams rebuild them as a custom object or move support into a dedicated tool. Recreate HubSpot deal stages as Attio statuses in the same order with the same names, so reporting continuity holds.
- Merge or remove duplicate people and companies. HubSpot accounts carry duplicates from form submissions and email sync.
- Standardise picklist values: one spelling per lifecycle stage, deal source and industry. Normalise phone numbers, dates and country codes.
- Drop every column that did not make the data model cut, and fill required fields — Attio rejects rows missing required attributes, so you catch them now rather than later.
- Import Companies first, then People linked to Companies, then Deals linked to both. Notes, activities and custom objects last.
- Map the HubSpot ID to an external identifier during the import, and spot-check 10 to 20 records per file.
Rebuild automations and reports rather than porting them
HubSpot workflows do not port one to one, so do not try. Audit the workflow list first — in most accounts half are off, broken, or doing nothing, and those stay behind. Attio's automation builder is simple enough that the essential set takes an hour or two, and most teams end up with fewer, cleaner automations than they had.
HubSpot reports do not migrate either. Recreate each one somebody actually opens as an Attio view or dashboard widget: a weekly pipeline view, a monthly activity summary by owner, a deal-stage funnel. Most accounts find a large share of their saved reports have not been opened in months.
- Lead assignment by owner, territory or round robin.
- Stage-change triggers that create tasks or post Slack messages.
- Deal-won notifications.
- Activity creation from calendar and email sync.
- Lifecycle-stage progression rules.
Cutover, traps, and timeline
Run both systems in parallel for a week: the team works in Attio, HubSpot stays read-only as a reference. Then archive HubSpot and keep read access for 30 to 60 days before cancelling. If marketing workflows still live there, keep a reduced seat count for the marketing side and sync CRM data between the two — plenty of teams run that way for six to twelve months before consolidating.
For a typical team under 50 users with a handful of custom objects, budget two to three weeks end to end. The data movement itself takes two to three days; the rest is the model rebuild, automation rework and training. Heavy marketing workflows that need a replacement tool push it to four to six weeks.
- Migrating every property. Prune hard, or Attio ends up as cluttered as the account you left.
- Porting every workflow instead of rebuilding the few that matter.
- Exporting with "Properties on view" instead of "All properties".
- Dropping the HubSpot record ID, which turns any reimport into guesswork.
- Cancelling HubSpot before the parallel week is done.
- Forgetting the marketing assets. Emails, sequences and landing pages do not move; plan the replacement before cutover.
FAQ
Can you migrate everything from HubSpot?
Core CRM data (contacts, companies, deals, notes, activities, custom properties), yes. Marketing assets like email templates, workflows, and landing pages don't transfer to Attio since it's a different kind of tool.
What about deal history and activity logs?
Deal records and notes can be migrated. Some activity history (emails, calls) depends on how HubSpot stores it and what Attio supports. We'll tell you exactly what can move during the audit.
How long does the migration take?
Most migrations take 1-2 weeks. Simple accounts with clean data can be faster. Larger accounts with lots of custom properties and messy data take longer.
Do we need to stop using HubSpot during migration?
No. Most teams keep using HubSpot until the new Attio workspace is ready and verified. Then you switch over.
Will my team need training on Attio?
Attio is simpler than HubSpot, so the learning curve is shorter. We include a walkthrough session and written documentation as part of the migration.
What if we use HubSpot integrations?
We'll review your integrations and determine which ones can be replicated in Attio natively or via Make/Zapier/n8n. Some HubSpot-specific integrations may need alternatives.
How do HubSpot custom objects and properties map to Attio?
HubSpot standard objects (Contacts, Companies, Deals, Tickets) map to Attio's People, Companies, and Deals, with tickets usually becoming a custom object. Custom properties become Attio attributes. The decision we make with you during the audit is which HubSpot properties become simple attributes and which deserve to be full objects with their own records and relationships. That call is what separates a clean workspace from a copied mess.
What happens to our HubSpot reports and dashboards?
Reports don't transfer as files, but we rebuild the ones your team actually looks at as Attio reports and list views. In practice most teams keep three or four core reports and drop the rest, since a lot of HubSpot dashboards were built once and never opened again. We confirm the keep list during the audit before the migration starts.
Can we use Import2 instead of a manual CSV migration?
Yes, and for most small and mid-size teams it covers about 90% of what they care about. Start it from the Migrate button inside Attio to keep it free. It moves companies, contacts, deals, notes, tasks, calls and leads, but not emails, meetings or file attachments — those need a manual pass or stay in HubSpot as an archive.
What happens to our HubSpot marketing tools?
They stay behind. Marketing emails, sequences, landing pages, forms, CTAs, lead scoring and chat do not move. If marketing automation is load-bearing, plan a replacement before cutover — Customer.io, Loops and Mailchimp are the common pairings with Attio — or keep a reduced HubSpot seat count for marketing and sync the CRM data across.
Do HubSpot Tickets have an equivalent in Attio?
Not by default. Most teams rebuild them as a custom object, or take the opportunity to move support work into a dedicated help desk instead of carrying it in the CRM.
