Attio vs Copper
Attio vs Copper: why teams switch
Copper made a smart bet: build the CRM that lives inside Gmail. For a small team running everything in Google Workspace, that is genuinely convenient. But if your business has outgrown a fixed People-Companies-Opportunities model, or you do not want your CRM welded to Gmail forever, that convenience starts to feel like a ceiling.
We migrate teams from Copper to Attio and set up a workspace they actually enjoy using, without giving up Gmail.
Short answer
Copper is the right answer if your team lives entirely in Gmail and the fixed People-Companies-Opportunities model fits. Attio wins the moment you need custom objects, deeper reporting, or a CRM that is not tied to Google. Attio syncs Gmail and Calendar natively, so switching does not mean leaving your inbox.
The Copper ceiling
Copper's strength is that it disappears into Gmail. Email and meetings log themselves, and nobody has to think about the CRM. That is real value, and it is why Copper teams stay put longer than they probably should.
The trouble is that the same design decision sets the ceiling. Copper gives you People, Companies, Opportunities, and Leads, and not much room to change that.
Teams usually start looking when:
- The business has entities that are not people, companies, or deals, and there is nowhere to put them
- Reporting cannot answer the questions leadership is actually asking
- The Google dependency has become a strategic risk rather than a convenience
- Per-seat cost is climbing while the data model stays fixed
- Custom fields have been stretched to model things that should be real objects
Where Attio wins
A data model that fits your business
Copper gives you People, Companies, Opportunities, and Leads, and not much room to change that. Attio lets you build custom objects and relationships from scratch, so your CRM mirrors how your business actually operates instead of forcing you into a fixed template.
Freedom from Gmail lock-in
Copper's greatest strength, its tight coupling to Google Workspace, is also its biggest lock-in. Attio is not tied to any suite. You keep Gmail if you want it, since Attio syncs email and calendar natively, but you are never trapped by the tool if your stack changes.
AI that is native, not an add-on
Copper has layered on some AI features, but they sit on top of the product. Ask Attio works across your entire workspace: search, summarize, update records, and draft notes in natural language. It is part of daily work, not a separate feature you remember to use.
Reporting that actually flexes
Copper's reporting is serviceable for basic pipeline views but rigid once your questions get more specific. Because Attio's reporting is built on top of a flexible data model, you can slice and report on the objects and relationships that matter to you.
Built to scale with a B2B team
Copper suits small teams running everything in Google. As B2B teams grow, they need more structure, stronger integrations, and a serious API. Attio is built for that trajectory, with a modern API and integrations that hold up as you scale.
Where Copper genuinely wins
Zero-effort Gmail logging is the best in the category. If your only requirement is that email and meetings appear against the right contact with nobody lifting a finger, Copper does that better than almost anything, and Attio's native sync is a close match rather than an outright improvement.
If your team runs 100% in Google Workspace, your process genuinely fits People-Companies-Opportunities, and you have no plans to change either, staying on Copper is the rational call. This page is for the teams that have outgrown that.

FAQ
Will we lose Gmail integration if we leave Copper?
No. Attio syncs Gmail and Google Calendar natively. Email and meetings still log against the right records automatically. What you lose is the dependency, not the inbox.
Can Copper data be migrated to Attio?
Yes. People, Companies, Opportunities, Leads, pipelines, notes, and custom fields all move. The valuable part is restructuring during the move rather than copying Copper's fixed model into a tool that does not need it.
How long does a Copper to Attio migration take?
Most take one to two weeks. Clean data with a straightforward pipeline can be faster. Years of Gmail-synced duplicates take longer, because cleanup is the real work.
Is Attio cheaper than Copper?
Usually, and more importantly the cost curve is flatter. Attio is free for up to three users, and paid plans do not have the same per-seat step changes as you add people.
What about Copper's Leads object?
Attio has no separate Leads object by design. Leads normally become People with a status attribute, or a dedicated custom object if your qualification process genuinely warrants one. We decide that during the audit.
Do we need an admin to run Attio?
No. That is much of the point. Once the workspace is set up properly, an ops-minded person on your team can change views, fields, and automations without a certified admin.
Ready to make the move?
We run the whole migration: audit, cleanup, mapping, import, and workspace setup. Live in 7 business days or you do not pay.
Ready when you are.
